There are additional requirements for international students. For the purposes of our safeguarding, this is defined as any student who has lived outside of the UK for more than six months during the past five years.
An Enhanced DBS only shows your criminal record in the UK. For this reason, we ask for additional measures to be taken to attest to your behaviour overseas. You will be allowed to start teaching before you have provided this attestation, but we strongly encourage you to get the process underway as soon as possible.
In order of preference, we ask you to provide:
1. A certificate of good conduct. Some countries or embassies will provide a certificate of clearance which show your conduct overseas. Ideally, you will be able to provide this within three months of your application. The UK government provides guidance on how to obtain this from your country. Unfortunately, Jacari can not cover any costs incurred.
2. Proof of a previous DBS check undertaken in the overseas country of residence, dated within the last two years.
3. A reference from an organisation who can attest to a previous DBS check being undertaken and approved in the overseas country of residence, dated within the last two years.
In the absence of a certificate of good conduct, a combination of the subsequent items is encouraged.
