Alumni

Founded in 1956 as a student society at the University of Oxford, Jacari now has a large alumni base of former volunteers, pupils and student society members. Many of our alumni remain connected to Jacari for years after they finish volunteering.

How to stay involved

From sharing your story to helping us raise vital funds, there are plenty of ways to continue your involvement with Jacari.

  • Share your story - we love hearing from our alumni about their memories of volunteering for Jacari and the impact it had on them. Sharing your story helps us recruit future volunteers and demonstrates the legacy of our programmes.
  • Make a donation to Jacari - for the cost of just a few cups of coffee you could donate £10 a month to Jacari so you can continue making a difference to migrant, refugee and asylum-seeking children.
  • Fundraise for Jacari - we organise annual fundraising challenges for alumni and volunteers, and encourage you to arrange your own fundraising events
  • Connect us with companies who could support our work or nominate Jacari as charity of the year with your employer.
  • Provide advice and professional expertise - we occasionally need specific skills so follow us on social media or subscribe to our mailing list so we can keep you updated.
  • Join our board  - we are interested in hearing from prospective Trustees to diversify our board. Our Trustees meet virtually four times a year and provide ad hoc support throughout the year to our small team on a voluntary basis.

We’d particularly like to reconnect with former Jacari pupils who received support from our volunteers. Many of our volunteers form lifelong friendships with their Jacari pupil, keeping in regular contact with them as they progress through school, university and beyond so do get in touch if you are still in contact with your pupil.

"The time I spent volunteering with Jacari was one of the best experiences of my university years. I always felt so welcomed into my pupil's family home ... I formed such a strong bond with them that they often invited me to take part in other family activities ... It was a joy and a privilege to watch my pupil and her siblings grow in confidence over five years."
