2023-24 Impact Report

January 6, 2025

We’ve recently launched our 2023-24 annual impact report. Our annual impact report tells the story of our year and shows the impact of Jacari support for children and young people who use English as an Additional Language (EAL). It also includes four wonderful case studies about some of our pupils and their volunteer tutors. It definitely makes for an inspiring read!

How do we measure the impact?

Each year we collect both quantitative and qualitative data from our pupils, parents, volunteers and partner school teachers to assess the impact of Jacari on pupils’ language skills and confidence. In addition, if our school partners are using the Department of Education EAL Assessment Framework bands (which are no longer mandatory) to measure a pupil’s proficiency in English, we use this as a measure of increase in language skills.  We use this data to compile an annual impact report as well as reviewing the feedback with our board of trustees in order to improve Jacari’s offer to families.

2023-24 in numbers

  • We supported 293 children and young people who use English as an additional language
  • 52% were primary and 48% secondary pupils
  • We supported 79 EAL pupils through our new peer tutoring programme, and 71 sixth form volunteers
  • In total, we worked with 239 volunteers who provided regular tutoring to our pupils
  • We organised 13 trips and events, attended by 189 people (pupils, their families and volunteers)
  • We partnered with 19 schools, which had an average of 43% EAL pupils

Impact highlights

  • 91% of pupils surveyed said the lessons helped them improve their English.
  • 100% of our school contacts surveyed thought that the Jacari lessons had a positive impact on pupils’ English language skills.
  • 94% of volunteers surveyed said their pupil had become more confident.
  • 89% of parents and carers surveyed said the lessons helped their child’s confidence.
  • 95% of pupils surveyed said they enjoyed their Jacari lessons.
  • 100% of school staff surveyed said that they would recommend Jacari.

If you're inspired by these achievements, it would be wonderful if you could consider making a donation towards Jacari's work this year.
