As we head off for our Christmas holidays and take a well-earned rest, we wanted to share some of the highlights of the last term.
It’s been a busy term with lots of changes in the Jacari team. We’ve welcomed two new Coordinators, Katie and Moira, to our Bristol team and interviewed for a new part time Peer Tutoring Coordinator role and maternity cover for our Coordinator in Oxford. We'll introduce you to our new team members in the new year!
This hasn’t slowed us down and we’ve attended university freshers’ fairs and volunteering events in both cities, leading to a massive 172 new volunteer applications!
We’ve run multiple volunteer training sessions, completed lots of DBS checks and matched new volunteers to pupils, who have been referred to us by our partner schools. We now have 115 pupils matched to a volunteer and receiving Jacari tutoring.
It’s been wonderful to meet lots of new Jacari volunteers and see them meeting their pupils for the first time! Our Coordinators have really enjoyed going to visit our partner schools and meeting with all the amazing teachers and staff who support EAL pupils.
We organised our first trip of the academic year in December, taking a group of Oxford pupils to Oxford City Farm. The children loved meeting the animals and making some delicious pizzas and choc chip cookies.
Other highlights of this term were the launch of our new branding and website.
We also had some fundraising successes, with grants from the Swire Charitable Trust, Maggie Black Trust, Macfarlane Family Foundation, Stanton Ballard Charitable Trust and Bartlett Taylor Charitable Trust.
We were delighted to receive donations from Oxford Scholastica Academy, along with 21 of our amazing supporters!
Thank you to everyone who supported Jacari this term. We can't wait to return in 2025!
