Oxford end of year celebration

June 20, 2024

We had so much fun at our end of year summer celebration event for Jacari Oxford pupils, their families and volunteers.

It was a pleasure to run this event jointly with Oxford Hub, who invited volunteers and pupils from their Schools Plus programme. We were excited to use their new community hub on the site of Windale Primary School in Blackbird Leys, a fantastic venue for family events as they have an outside space with play equipment along with a large conservatory space. It's also in the heart of the communities where many of our Jacari pupils live.

Jacari had 45 attendees at the event and it was lovely to see so many of the children and young people we've supported this year and meet their families. We particularly enjoyed hearing from parents how much Jacari means to their children.

We arranged lots of outdoor games and activities including giant Jenga and Snakes and Ladders, football, frisbee, ball games, hula hoops, as well as many board games and face painting.

We invited a member of You Move to the event, an organisation that provides free or low cost activities to families in need of support. Ben from You Move was great at interacting with the children and keeping them active

Everyone enjoyed delicious food from Damascus Rose Kitchen, a social enterprise serving traditional Middle Eastern dishes made with love by Arabic-speaking refugee women, which went down really well with the families and made the event really special!
